Under the changes, people who are jailed for serious sexual offences against children would automatically be put under strict monitoring requirements for the rest of their lives. The changes strengthen the current system where a judge decides whether to continue monitoring and follows community concern about the notorious sex offender Robert John Fardon, whose supervision order ends next month. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said they had worked hard to ensure the laws could not be legally challenged. To maintain the monitoring program, the government has promised the police more funding and resources, although did not specify how much. The changes will be introduced to parliament on Tuesday. A Court of Appeal hearing in Fardon’s case has been set down for September 26, exactly one week before his supervision order is due to be lifted.

Violent words and actions are tools an abusive partner uses to gain and maintain power and control over their partner.
Any young person can experience dating abuse or unhealthy relationship behaviors, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic standing, ethnicity, religion or culture. There are some warning signs that can help you identify if your relationship is unhealthy or abusive, including the examples below.

Maroochydore Uber has done it to the taxi industry, Airbnb has done to it hotels — now there are concerns that dating apps are destroying the legal brothel industry. She has blamed the downturn on a rise in the use of internet dating apps like Tinder where people can access sex for free. The coast’s other legal brothel closed in June last year and attempts to sell the once-busy brothel via auction and then private treaty were unsuccessful.
Rebecca, who has managed legal brothels in Queensland for eight years, three of those her current location, said while it was “still a good business”, they had “definitely seen a decline in the last year”. She said people still wanted to come to regulated facilities like legal brothels, but changes in the last year were “definitely having an impact”. Because the majority of people who have contacted me have lied and therefore wasted my time; rarely thanked me for my time and advice; rarely cared about my own situation; and treated me rudely, I am no longer prepared to respond to ‘phone calls and emails about the legal status of a dog or any companion animal. The stealing of a dog is a crime. However even though they considered this highly unlikely the Police recommended I wait to see if Beau was found from my advertising that week before the crime report was completed.
On 8 July the Police completed the crime report and issued me with a Police Crime report number. Beau was then a legally stolen dog under Australian law.
Recent changes in Queensland planning law continue the shift toward a more commercially oriented, business-friendly planning framework that relegates accountability and public access and influence to a minimum. This stands in contrast to a government directions paper for planning reform that declared: The planning system should be open, transparent and accountable to ensure that both the community and industry can have confidence in the decisions that are made.
When the then planning minister, Jackie Trad, introduced the Planning Act in , she identified three reforms that supported transparency:

The new laws mean any Queensland driver wanting to buy a caravan will probably need to buy a new vehicle as well. Under the proposed new codes, to come into effect in two weeks, the towing capacity of 4WD vehicles will not be able to be upgraded after purchase. Queenslanders who need an increased carrying or towing capacity will be forced to buy large, powerful, expensive and fuel-inefficient imported utes and trucks.
The upgrades – such as improved suspension and shock absorbers – provide a more stable, safer ride and quicker stopping, while increasing towing capacity. The weight of accessories such as water tanks, extended fuel tanks, bull bars and winches force many vehicles over their legal weight limit, which also makes upgrades necessary. Vehicles operated in excess of their legal carrying capacity are declared unsafe and are not covered by insurance.
The ban will mean that many caravaners will be lucky to fit two people and a full load of fuel into their vehicles before they are over the legal towing limit. Transport Minister Mark Bailey, despite repeated requests, has not told peak industry bodies why the Government is proceeding with the new laws.
The new laws will affect up to a million 4WD drivers and , “grey nomads”.

My Ut Trinh, 50, was arrested in Brisbane on Sunday , two months after the discovery of needles prompted copycat cases and led to supermarkets removing strawberries — and needles — from shelves. Farmers were forced to dump tonnes of strawberries and prices plunged, as foreign and local demand plummeted and health authorities issued warnings. The Brisbane magistrates court heard that Ms Trinh worked as a supervisor at the Berry Licious farm, but did not pick strawberries work or in the packing sheds.
Superintendent Jon Wacker, from Queensland Police, said there were reports of sewing needles found in strawberries , including 77 in Queensland. Fifteen were found to be hoaxes. Sixty-eight strawberry brands were affected, including 49 in Queensland. Following the initial discovery of contaminated strawberry punnets, which were believed to have originated in Queensland, needles were also found in bananas, apples and mangoes. Some of the cases involved hoaxes, including people inserting needles after buying the fruit and then posting images on social media.

Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath said in a statement the new laws would allow abortion to no longer be treated as a crime, but as a health issue.
Under existing law, women face jail terms of up to seven years for procuring an illegal abortion.

Margot Laughton Euthanasia In Australia you can end up in court for keeping an animal that is suffering pain and is beyond medical recovery but you can also go to jail for helping to end the life of a human being that is suffering the same pain. The Northern Territory introduced their famous euthanasia legislation in the s to allow terminally ill people to end their suffering but the Federal Government in Canberra used their powers to overturn any decision made by the Northern Territory as it is not a state and only has limited self-government and the laws were swiftly repealed.

Fuel truck must travel alone Ferry across the Daintree river On the Daintree river ferry in north Queensland the local council regulations say that trucks carrying fuel have to travel on the ferry alone, with no other vehicles or passengers, even if it is peak time and queues are built up on both sides of the river. This while the fuel truck sits in the normal queue before it reaches the ferry with people walking around the truck smoking cigarettes, but then on the ferry where smoking is not allowed the fuel truck has to travel alone!
What sounds safer to you? Walking around a fuel truck on the road with a cigarette in your hand, or sitting next to a fuel truck on the ferry in your car while you are not smoking? Releasing a carp or even possessing a carp, even a dead carp,or part of a carp, will cost you the same. In line with the National Anthem that sings “for those who’ve come across the seas, we’ve boundless plains to share” these detention centres are usually in remote places like Woomera in South Australia or Port Hedland in Western Australia.
When protesters started to find their way even to those remote locations the “Pacific Solution” was introduced, where governments of Pacific islands were paid to have detention centres on their islands. A tally is also kept of the cost of detention and processing of these refugees and a bill presented to them on deportation, although it remains to be seen how many would actually pay this, one family that exhausted every legal avenue for three years managed to clock up a bill of no less than three million dollars!

The party held a special meeting this afternoon where members voted unanimously in support of the free vote. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk had already granted Labor MPs a conscience vote because a small number of members don’t support abortion. The Queensland government had implored the opposition to allow its members to make a conscience vote on the bill, which is now expected to pass with the support of some LNP MPs. The laws would also enforce safe zones around clinics and medical facilities offering the procedure to stop staff and patients being harassed by anti-abortion activists.

Come on Victorians, send us some pics of your pubs! The Daly Waters pub is a little bit off the Stuart Highway but well worth the short detour. The pub is filled with memorabilia left behind by people from all over the world and is a very pleasant place to rest from the long driving hours and enjoy a few coldies and some food. There is a camping area attached to the pub and just around the corner there is an airstrip, it does not get much traffic nowadays but once it used to be an overnight stop on the London-Sydney flights.

Your year-old son is dating a year-old female classmate — no big deal, right? Take, for example, the widely publicized case of Marcus Dwayne Dixon, an year-old high school honor student and star football player who had sex with a year-old female classmate. She claimed it was rape, he claimed it was consensual, and a jury acquitted him of the charges. However, because of their age difference, the jury still found Dixon guilty of statutory rape and aggravated child molestation, and sentenced him to a mandatory 10 years in prison under Georgia law.
He walked out of prison on May 3, , at age 19, a free man. Upon his release from prison, Dixon enrolled at Hampton University in Virginia with a football scholarship.
