Terry Richard, The OregonianArrowleaf balsamroot blooms each spring. Good bets for dry springtime camping Ready for more sun? Winter was wonderfully wet in Portland, and odds are that some more wet days lie in our future. But you don’t need to put up with the rain and clouds that the Willamette Valley gets during a normal spring. More often than not, that’s where the sun will be shining while it drizzles in Portland — as April stretches into May, then May into June. Remember, though, to bring earplugs to block out noise from the highways and railroads. Here are five campgrounds, most in Oregon and Washington state parks, with a good chance for some spring sun. A scenic place to park an RV or pitch a tent, then explore the gorge by car. Hemmed in by I , though, it’s a minimum mile drive whenever you exit the campground.

When we came to Circle Creek, they said they had spaces available with no hookups, so we took that and mentioned that if anyone cancelled their reservation for a full hookup space, to please let us know. There were a lot of people in the dry camping area, so we figured we’d be stuck out there. As soon as we got our rig leveled out and settled in the dry camping area, someone from the office drove over to tell us that someone had just cancelled their 4 day reservation for a full hookup space and he wanted to know if we wanted to take it!

The spaces were more to our liking as they were large so that campers were not on top of each other like so many of the campground spaces are. The only reason I didn’t give this a 5 star rating was because the wifi was very, very slow.
